India reports Omicron, Delta co-infections

India has witnessed some cases of mixed infections with both Delta and Omicron strains of the coronavirus, people aware about the situation told ET.

The Indian SARS-CoV-2 Consortium on Genomics (Insacog), the consortium that takes care of genome sequencing in the country, met on Friday to review the situation. A member of Insacog said that the new Deltacron variant, identified in some countries, has not yet been found in India. However, some cases of mixed infection due to both Delta and Omicron have been detected.

The member stated that Insacog has closely checked for the presence of Deltacron in the country. Some cases were identified where the strain was not clear, but a closer analysis revealed co-infection with Omicron and Delta variants. He added that there were more than 10 such cases where the strain was not clear… (ET Healthworld, February 19, 2022)
